REGISTRATION
Register online now at www.elementdiscoveryweekend.com.  Registering online ahead of time is strongly encouraged as it helps us to better prepare for the weekend and also allows for a much quicker check-in process for you on Friday!  Online registration will close on Wednesday, March 6 at 12pm CST.  Walk-up registration will then open on Friday, March 8 at 5:50pm in the Fellowship Hall, located on the large parking lot side of Trinity UMC.  Parents of walk-up registrants will need to complete both paper registration and medical forms upon arrival and should bring medical and insurance information.  Please note that partial and full scholarships are available.

FRIDAY EVENING
High school leaders will check in starting at 4:30pm in the tent, located in the small parking lot.  Dinner will be served at 5:00pm in the tent and a leader meeting will begin promptly at 5:20pm.  All high school leaders are expected to attend this meeting.

Middle school students will check in starting at 5:50pm in the Fellowship Hall on the large parking lot side of the church.  Following check-in and luggage drop off, students will have dinner at the Welcome Party in the large parking lot.

WEEKEND SCHEDULE
Please find a schedule of the weekend here: DISCOVERY WEEKEND PARENT SCHEDULE

**NEW** RAIN PLAN FOR DISCOVERY WEEKEND!!

Due to impending rain this weekend, Discovery has now activated its rain plan. Please note we are still following the weather closely and will communicate any additional information with you via email and on our website (www.elementdiscoveryweekend.com) should there be further developments.

Saturday:
The 6th graders will no longer collect canned goods and will instead join the 7th/8th graders at Homewood Middle School for the Rise Against Hunger mission project. All students will rotate between Trinity UMC and HMS for lunch, D-group and the mission project. If your student (middle school or high school) needs to check out between 12:00 – 3:00pm on Saturday, please stop by the Check In/Check Out desk located at Trinity UMC first to determine where your student is in the rotation. This desk is located in the 1st floor lobby of Trinity UMC on the Seminole Drive side of the church.

Sunday:
We are now unable to go to Horses, Horses in Calera. We will stay close to home and venture to Homewood Park and Rec Center. Due to the elimination of travel time, our Final Recap Service will now begin at 12:30pm in the gym. Parents are invited to attend and should arrive at 12:15pm. Students will be dismissed following the service. If your student (middle school or high school) needs to check out between 8:45am – 12:15pm on Sunday, please stop by the Check In/Check Out desk located at Trinity UMC first before heading to Homewood Park.

DISCOVERY LETTERS (Middle School ONLY)
If you haven’t already, now is the time to begin gathering 4-5 letters of encouragement for your student from mentors, coaches, friends or family members.  These can be mailed to Trinity UMC (1400 Oxmoor Rd, 35209) or dropped in the letter boxes located in the church office or the Haven lobby any time before March 8.  They can also be turned in at Registration on Friday, March 8 or at the Prayer Service on Saturday, March 9.  Please include your student’s FIRST AND LAST NAME AND GRADE on your letter.

Sample letters can be found here – http://bit.ly/1zpYpBF

SATURDAY NIGHT PRAYER SERVICES
There will be a 6th Grade Prayer Service and a 7th/8th Grade Prayer Service on Saturday night in the Sanctuary.  Parents and/or family members are strongly encouraged to attend.  This is an extremely special and meaningful service for both our students and parents and includes a time for parents and family members to lay hands on and pray over their students.  Parents will also help to create a candlelight walkthrough line for the students.  Please see below for important times and details that will help to make this run smoothly – we need all middle school parents and families attending either service to be a part.  We ask that at least one family member be present for their student’s service.

If you find that no one from your family is able to attend, please notify Betsy and we will ensure that someone is there with your student.  bmclean@trinitybirmingham.com

CHECK IN/OUT
We understand that students may be involved in other activities during the weekend.  Check in/out for middle school and high school students will be in the first-floor lobby on the Seminole Road side of church.  Seminole Road will be a thoroughfare for our students during the weekend and will be closed to vehicles.  Please park on Manhattan Street.  If your student needs to check in/out on Saturday during our off-site Mission time, 12:00-3:00pm, see SATURDAY MISSION PROJECT below with further check in/out details.

STUDENTS SLEEPING AT HOME
Please note that a student will not miss out on any Discovery activities if he/she chooses to get a better night’s sleep at home!  Any student not sleeping at the church should be checked-out around 10:20pm on Friday night and 10:40pm on Saturday night and checked-in before breakfast the following morning, both in the first-floor lobby on the Seminole Road side of church.  Seminole Road will be a thoroughfare for our students during the weekend and will be closed to vehicles.  Please park on Manhattan Street.  Breakfast will be served at 8:30am Saturday morning and 8:15am Sunday morning.  Students will receive Discovery t-shirts on Friday night at check-out.  Please make sure they wear them Saturday and Sunday!

LUGGAGE & PACKING LIST
You can find the packing list here:  http://elementstudentministry.com/wonder/parentinfo/packing/

If you have an old Discovery laundry bag, feel free to go ahead and pack your overnight bag, sleeping bag, pillow, etc. in it before you come!  It helps us “go green” by reusing AND it will help you get through registration a little faster!  You might want to include a little extra padding this year as some sleep rooms may not be carpeted.  Laundry bags will also be available at check-in.

SATURDAY MISSION PROJECT

6th Graders will participate in a canned food drive Saturday afternoon between 12:00 and 3:00pm. It will begin at Homewood Central Park with lunch and then students will walk through the Homewood community in small groups with adult and high school leaders. A portion of the students will travel via bus and parent drivers to areas of Homewood that are slightly out of walking distance.  If a student needs to check in/out during this time, please go first to Trinity UMC first-floor lobby of the Seminole Road side of the church to check in/out and we will direct you to the street(s) where your child will be.

7th & 8th Graders will participate in Rise Against Hunger Saturday afternoon between 12:00 and 3:00pm. They will walk to Homewood Middle School for lunch, pack Rise Against Hunger meals in the cafeteria and then walk back to the church.  If a student needs to check in/out during this time, please go directly to Homewood Middle School and see Element staff member Sarah Mezzy to check in/out.

SUNDAY AT HORSES, HORSES
Students will be traveling via bus and parent cars to The Hayes family farm, Horses, Horses, in Calera, AL. Specific times of travel are listed on the weekend schedule, link found above.  Driving directions can be found here: DIRECTIONS TO HORSES, HORSES
